What We Do

Earthquake risk doesn’t have to be simply endured.

It can be measured, reduced and transformed into value.

ISAAC enables institutions, designers, businesses and individuals to ensure the continuity of critical buildings, enhancing their safety and value over time. We achieve this through active seismic control systems, continuous monitoring and integrated specialist expertise.

Seamless continuity

It’s not enough for a building just to stand firm. It needs to keep serving the purpose for which it was built. ISAAC systems are installed on the roof or on the top floor, without disrupting the building’s activities.

The building as an active system

ISAAC systems improve the structural protection of existing buildings by reducing vibrations. Sensors, an algorithm and movable masses work together to detect the building’s movement and generate counteracting forces.

Trackable performance

ISAAC demonstrates the effectiveness of its systems through verifiable research partnerships, documented reports and installations backed by measured data. After installation, the system’s performance can be observed and recorded.

Measurable performance

Continuous monitoring of ISAAC systems makes a building’s dynamic behavior observable over time, providing data to help evaluate how it responds.

01

Detect

Accelerometers fitted to the building measure any oscillations, drift and vibrations.

02

Calcolate

Based on the data collected, feedback controls and digital models estimate the dynamic state of the structure.

03

React

The device’s actuators generate in-phase and out-of-phase forces to dampen the building’s movement.

Value for those who design, build and manage.

A well-documented and justifiable decision for signatories and for assets.

01

For designers

ISAAC makes it feasible to perform interventions that are not possible with traditional solutions.

02

For builders

ISAAC eliminates the unexpected: it simplifies installation and drastically reduces the complexity of site management.

03

For administrators

ISAAC turns a difficult choice into one that can be justified and measured with data.

04

For businesses

ISAAC safeguards business continuity. It ensures structural safety and monitoring without interrupting operations.

05

For the public sector

Ensuring safety and continuity: ISAAC safeguards people, ensures the provision of services and protects our architectural heritage.

Discover the Active Mass Damper system
Non-invasive, active control, monitored over time

Our Active Mass Dampers are completely non-invasive seismic damping systems: they detect any vibrations and take action to counteract them. Continuous monitoring allows us to assess the condition of the building and the effectiveness of the protection over time.

  • Modular system, bespoke configuration
  • Installation on the roof or in the loft
  • Active, adaptive, non-invasive protection

Active monitoring and continuity
How to convert seismic risk into measurable value.

ISAAC systems are installed on rooftops, minimising the impact on the building’s spaces and activities. Furthermore, each configuration is tailored to the specific characteristics of the building. Testing, commissioning and monitoring make it possible to observe and document the system’s performance. ISAAC is there throughout the process, supporting designers, contractors and clients from initial assessment to system commissioning and beyond.

Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about ISAAC’s patented seismic protection systems and technologies.

Where do you install the system and how much space does it take up?

L
K
ISAAC is installed at the top of the building, typically on the roof, in the attic or on the top floor. The number and layout of the devices are tailored to the building’s structural characteristics and the performance goals of the project.

Does it require any work on the load-bearing structures?

L
K
ISAAC technology is designed to minimize invasive work on the existing building. The devices rely on electronically controlled moving masses that generate forces to counteract the structure’s oscillations. The works needed to integrate the system are still defined case by case during the design phase.

Will it change the appearance of the building?

L
K
The impact on the building’s appearance is generally minimal, since the devices are placed at the top of the structure and integrated into the design. This makes the technology especially well suited to existing buildings where preserving space, functionality and architectural character is essential. It has already been deployed in a number of heritage-protected settings, where the Soprintendenza (the Italian heritage authority) heavily restricts any intervention that could alter, in whole or in part, the building’s aesthetics.

How long will the installation take, and will the building need to close?

L
K
Installation is planned to minimize disruption to the building’s spaces and activities. Because the devices are located at the top of the structure, areas not involved in the works can often remain in use. Timing and methods still depend on the specifics of each project. On average, an ISAAC installation takes around 3-4 months.

What maintenance will it require over time?

L
K
ISAAC stays with the system well beyond commissioning, with ongoing monitoring and maintenance. The data collected lets you verify the system’s performance and track how the structure behaves over time, building a dynamic “identity card” of the property.

How does it fit into the structural design and the planning permission process?

L
K
ISAAC supports the designer from the very first stages, from modeling and structural analysis to system configuration, technical documentation, commissioning and acceptance testing support. This brings active control into the project through a clearly defined, verifiable technical process.

ISAAC is always there
From the initial concept to the entire operational life of the system.

2018-2019

Stage 1

Research and configure

ISAAC analyses the building, its dynamic behaviour and the design constraints in order to define the system’s configuration and its integration into the structural solution.

2018-2019

Stage 2

Plan and install

Working alongside the designers, contractor, project management team and administrator, we plan access routes, operational timelines and interfaces to minimise impact on the building’s activities.

2018-2019

Stage 3

Check and monitor

Components, sensors, software and the control system are tested in the field before commissioning, and monitoring then continues throughout the system’s lifetime.
